Heat exchanger tubes made of stainless steel 304H have a number of important characteristics that make them ideal for high-temperature applications. The main quality of stainless steel 304H is its outstanding high-temperature strength, which enables it to endure high temperatures without suffering from severe deformation or losing structural integrity. This is especially important for heat exchanger applications since the tubes are subjected to high temperatures and thermal cycling.
A small quantity of chromium is present in stainless steel, which boosts the steel's resistant properties. Steel that contains molybdenum has improved strength and other characteristics. Because of its characteristics and ability to withstand harsh environments, 304H stainless steel is preferred over all other Stainless steel grades. High tensile strength, improved short creep characteristics, and superior heat resistance are all provided by the 304H grade. This is the rationale behind selecting this grade for heat exchanger tube construction as well.
Another distinction is the capacity to operate at high temperatures. Stainless steel 304H is intended for use in high-temperature conditions, typically up to 900-1150°C (1652-2102°F). This expanded temperature range exceeds the upper limit of standard stainless steel 304, which is normally approved for use up to 550-600°C (1022-1112°F). Thus, higher temperature heat exchanger applications are better suited for stainless steel 304H. The greater carbon content of stainless steel 304H can affect its welding properties. The higher carbon content of 304H might cause a more noticeable corrosion sensitization during welding, even if stainless steel 304 is easily weldable using standard techniques.
